Polypropylene twist yarn is essentially a type of high-strength polypropylene filament (FDY) processed through the twisting process. Through this twisting step, the originally smooth polypropylene filament is "twisted" together, thereby achieving better cohesion and strength, which meets the requirements of specific industrial applications.
The essence of twisting is to combine multiple single fibers through rotational entanglement. An appropriate twist degree can make the fibers evenly distributed under tension, enhancing the compactness and wear resistance of the yarn, and reducing the risk of breakage during weaving or knitting processes. However, the twist degree is not necessarily the higher the better – an excessively high twist degree will affect the feel, while an excessively low twist degree may cause the yarn to become loose. In simple terms, to produce products of the same strength, it uses less material, results in a lighter product, and can also save transportation and installation costs.
The chemical advantages of "unbreakable and indestructible" (ideal for harsh environments): It is resistant to acids, alkalis, and seawater corrosion, and does not absorb moisture or get moldy. This far exceeds nylon and polyester (which degrade when exposed to acids or humid environments). Therefore, in fields such as chemical filtration cloth, offshore rope cables, and wastewater treatment, its service life is several times longer than that of other synthetic fibers.
The "flexible adjustment" structural advantage (extremely adaptable): By adjusting the twist degree (the number of twists per meter), the character of the yarn can be changed like "tightening screws". When the twist degree is low (30-80 twists per meter), the yarn is soft and suitable for weaving filter cloths that require good fit; when the twist degree is high (above 300 twists), the yarn becomes harder and more durable, and is highly suitable for making the load-bearing layers of fire hoses and industrial belts, achieving "soft when needed, hard when needed".
Stable dimensions and processing advantages: The twisted yarn that has undergone heat setting treatment has a shrinkage rate of ≤ 5% in boiling water. This means that it is less likely to deform or shrink under high-temperature and high-pressure processing or in humid environments. At the same time, the twisting process eliminates the "aurora effect" on the surface of the long yarn, making the fabric feel fuller. It is also less prone to shedding or breaking during subsequent weaving, resulting in high production efficiency.
